The mural in the Velva store tells a captivating story, including the journey of a John Deere model 80 tractor that became a symbol of Velva’s agricultural heritage. In 1955, the John Deere model 80 with serial number 8000001 made its way to the Minot store, eventually finding a home in Velva. Sold new at Burgess Chevrolet & Implement, it belonged to Phil Thomas, who farmed northeast of Velva. In the early 1980s, Francis Thomas, Phil’s son, traded the 80 in at Velva Implement, marking the beginning of a new chapter. The tractor then journeyed to Gary Koop from Waverly, Iowa, creating a unique link between Velva and the broader community.
Velva, ND is more than just a Gooseneck location; it’s a testament to the enduring spirit. Every success story, every customer relationship, and every act of community involvement contributes to the living history.
