Combine Check List
September 27, 2023

With the recent rain delay, and working through crop changes, here are some key recommendations to keep in mind for your combine:

  1. Ensure that the sieve and chaffer clearance is correctly set between the monitor and actual – these may need to be recalibrated.
  2. Conduct a visual walk-around to check belt tensions on the X Series combines, and to check the adjustment springs on the S Series – please refer to the Operators Manual.
  3. When transitioning to corn harvest, ensure the separator grate spacers are installed.
  4. Examine the poly on heads and verify their condition. If replacement is necessary, be sure the replacements are ordered promptly.
  5. Inspect the guards and ensure they have sharp, unrounded edges – refer to the image below for reference. Rounded guard edges can result in a loss of sharing action on the sickle and guards.
  6. Examine the top of the clean grain housing, specifically the mass flow sensor impact plate, which is made of poly. Worn or contaminated plates can reduce actual yield. This one-piece component can be replaced as needed. Additionally, be aware that high moisture crops can accumulate on this plate.
  7. Maintain the sharpness of chopper knives, as they cannot be round or dull. A sharp edge is essential for proper functionality.

For additional information, please contact your local Gooseneck Implement, or consult your Operators Manual.
